Communications

The Howell Township Police Department employs full-time and part-time Public Safety Telecommunicators (PST).   The PSTs perform several important tasks including the handling of 9-1-1 and non-emergency calls for service, the dispatching and monitoring of Police, Fire and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) within Howell Township. The Communications Center, serving as a 9-1-1 answering point, consolidates all requests for emergency services in Howell Township into one center while also serving as a backup answering point for other agencies including Monmouth County Sheriff's Office Communications.

All PSTs are certified by the State of New Jersey as Emergency Medical Dispatchers and Basic Telecommunicators as well as receiving continuous training in domestic violence call handling, crisis and hostage negotiations, tactical communications, advanced public safety dispatching in addition to being proficient in local, state and national databases.
